Happy Friday the 13th!
I am not a very superstitious person (insert girly shrieks and ghostly howls), but I do believe there is an element of bad luck that is controlled by something else. So I try to avoid intentionally angering the "spirits" when possible. While most people agree Friday the 13th is an unlucky day, there are many theories as to why. According to Wikipedia, the origin can be traced back to an ancient myth: The actual origin of the superstition, though, appears also to be a tale in Norse mythology. Friday is named for Frigga, the free-spirited goddess of love and fertility. When Norse and Germanic tribes converted to Christianity, Frigga was banished in shame to a mountaintop and labeled a witch. It was believed that every Friday, the spiteful goddess convened a meeting with eleven other witches, plus the devil — a gathering of thirteen — and plotted ill turns of fate for the coming week. For many centuries in Scandinavia, Friday was known as "Witches' Sabbath."Because golf is so mental, I think most golfers are a little superstitious. To what extent depends on the individual. But in general, I would guess most golfers are "superstitious" or know a golfer who is. I am only superstitious about one thing on the golf course. If I have an approach shot over water and I let myself think "this is going into the water" then BOOM, it's in the water. I think you could even chalk that up to something other than superstition.
