Fredrik Jacobson Wins Travelers Championship By mustang6560 on 6/27/11
Fredrik Jacobson captured his first PGA Tour victory Sunday at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.
Jacobson edged out Ryan Moore (who could have forced a playoff with a par on the 72nd hole) and John Rollins to become the seventh Swedish-born player to win on the PGA Tour. It took 188 tries, but the Swede finally broke through. "It's been haunting me," Jacobson said. "I've been on the board, I've been asked so many times from the kids, 'Did you get a trophy this week daddy? Did you get a trophy this week?' Nope, no trophy. So, I'm excited about that. I'm glad I'm not breaking that promise for her."I'm happy for Jacobson, but I think his victory was overshadowed by the performance of amateur Patrick Cantlay. Just over a week ago, the 19 year old UCLA rising sophomore was the Jack Nicklaus award recipient as the National Player of the Year and the low amateur at the U.S. Open. This week, the youngster carded a second round 60 at TPC River Highlands, which is the new course record. He is the first amateur to post a 60 on the PGA Tour. Cantlay was even leading the tournament at one point, not bad for someone who can't even legally drink yet. The "So Cal Cool" kid swears he's going to get his degree before he turns pro, but if he keeps playing well on the PGA Tour, he might not need a degree. Full Story photo [ comments ] tinga735 says:
