Scott Stallings Wins Greenbrier Classic By mustang6560 on 8/1/11
Scott Stallings has been to the Masters before, as a spectator, but never as a player.
In 2009, Scott attended the tournament for a day and was thoroughly impressed with the the atmosphere that is Augusta National. So much so, that he vowed to never return to the Masters unless he was invited to play. He even carried around a Master’s pencil in his yardage book to remind him of his goal. Well, Scott earned that invite Sunday with his victory at the Greenbrier Classic. "I've wanted to do this since I was a little kid," Stallings said. "I was that little boy running around chasing autographs and yelling at guys because they wouldn't stop and sign my golf balls."After a hitting his tee shot into the water on the 17th which led to a bogey, Scott managed to birdie the 18th and enter a three-way playoff with Bill Haas and Bob Estes. All three players hit their tee shot over the front ridge of the 18th green, but it was Scott who left himself with the best look at birdie. Bill and Bob both missed their birdie putts right, which left 6’9” between Scott and his first PGA Tour victory. And he nailed it. Scott Stallings continued the storyline of the 2011 PGA Tour Sunday by winning the Greenbrier Classic as a rookie. He is the sixth rookie to win and is the 10th first time winner this season. Anybody see Anthony Kim on Sunday? After carding an eight-under 62 on Saturday, Anthony looked poised to play his way into the WGC Bridgestone Invitational by winning his four PGA Tour trophy. Alas, even though he carded a disappointing four-over 74 en route to a T14 finish, his tournament wasn’t a complete disaster - his new do has its own Facebook page.
