Hunter Mahan Wins Accenture Match Play By mustang6560 on 2/27/12
Hunter Mahan prevented Rory McIlroy from ascending to the top of golf Sunday with a 2&1 defeat of the Northern Irishman in the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship.
Thanks to Luke Donald's first-round exit, the McIlroy-Westwood winner would move into the No. 1 spot with a win at Dove Mountain. Westwood has been the No. 1 player before; McIlroy hasn't.It took Hunter 19 holes to get past Zach Johnson in the first round of the Accenture Match Play, but he dominated his next three matches en route to the 36-hole finale Sunday. He defeated Y.E. Yang 5&3 in the second round, Steve Stricker 4&3 in the third round and Matt Kuchar 6&5 in the fourth round. Life is good for the Texas resident. He just celebrated his one-year anniversary with his wife Kandi, who is a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, he's building a 19,000 square foot mansion in the outskirts of Dallas and he just picked up his fourth career PGA Tour victory. The only thing that could make life better is a major win or a shot at redemption in the 2012 Ryder Cup. read more Flickr, Keith Allison [ comments ] no comments posted yet. [ post comment ]
