TIGER'S QL NATIONAL LEAVING CONGRESSIONAL

The Quicken Loans National, the PGA Tour event hosted by Tiger Woods, is leaving Congressional Country Club after 2016 — perhaps permanently. The Tour, officials of Quicken Loans, and Woods's foundation announced the change earlier today. The 2017 event will go to TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm — formerly known as "TPC Avenel." TPC Potomac last hosted the PGA Tour in 2006, which was the final year of the Kemper Open. Afterward, a major renovation of the course and clubhouse was undertaken and completed.

The 2015 edition will be played at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia. The 2016 event will be played at Congressional, and then the 2017 edition will go to TPC Potomac.

Although Woods strongly desired that his Tournament be played at Congressional each year, club members objected to the arrangement and earlier approved a plan to host the event in 2016, 2018, and 2020. This is understandable because membership at Congressional is extremely limited and club members obviously would not want to lose access to their course for several weeks at a time. In fact, preparations for the 2011 U.S. Open Championship at Congressional forced the 2010 and 2011 editions of Tiger's tournament to be played at the famous Aronimink Golf Club, some 20 miles west of downtown Philadelphia. All of the above are private country clubs; the tournament has never been held at a semi-private or public-access course.

No announcement has been made about the tournament's host venue beyond 2017.
