Davis Love III taking on additional duties By Torleif Sorenson on 2/24/15
Now you know the details of this afternoon's announcement of Davis Love III returning as Ryder Cup Team USA captain. In the meantime, the extremely resourceful veteran golf writer Tim Rosaforte, who broke the story a week ago Monday, continues to scoop the rest of the world on the developments involving the 2016 Ryder Cup and the PGA of America. Rosaforte now reports that a source close to the PGA of America's Ryder Cup Task Force told him that DL3 was the players' unanimous favorite from the beginning days of the committee. Also, the source said that Fred Couples was never considered for the captaincy. Last Thursday, Rosaforte also reported that the PGA of America have begun a system of "grooming" future Ryder Cup captains. On Monday evening, Rosaforte confirmed this, reporting that DL3 is already locked in as a vice captain for the 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National in France. Love will also be a vice captain at the 2015 Presidents Cup, which will be held at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea, located near Incheon, South Korea. Jay Haas will captain the American side opposite Nick Price, who will be assisted by K.J. Choi — a very logical and popular choice. In addition, Love will serve another term on the PGA Tour Policy Board, putting him in close proximity to the Tour players who will attempt to make the 2016 U.S. Ryder Cup team.
