Czech out Cejka's win! By Torleif Sorenson on 3/9/15
The Czech-born golfer Alexander Čejka is a well-known and very experienced quantity on the European Tour, with three victories in 1995 and then a fourth at the 2002 Trophée Lancôme. Ironically, he has yet to play in a Ryder Cup. But his strong play in the United States has been limited to a solo fourth-place finish at the 2003 PGA Championship and a T-8 at the 2010 U.S. Open. This past weekend, the PGA Tour's event opposite the WGC-Cadillac was the Puerto Rico Open. And when Emiliano Grillo could not sink a winning putt on the 72nd hole, a five-man playoff ensued — the first since the 2005 Bellsouth outside Atlanta. When Grillo, Tim Petrovic, Jon Curran and Sam Saunders (Arnold Palmer's grandson) could not sink birdies on the first sudden-death playoff hole, Čejka triumphed by sinking a knee-knocking 15-footer. Now, the 44-year-old Čejka (a German citizen who lives part-time in Las Vegas) has a two-year PGA Tour exemption and has jumped from 285th to 163rd in the Official World Golf Ranking. That is what you would call "perseverance." Have you seen an interesting golf story? Tell us about it! [ comments ] no comments posted yet. [ post comment ]
