Lefty withdraws from WGC-Match Play By Torleif Sorenson on 4/27/15
On Sunday, Phil Mickelson informed the PGA Tour that he will not be at this week's World Golf Championships-Cadillac Match Play at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. Citing only "personal reasons" and sounding disappointed about it, Mickelson said in a statement: "I'm really happy with the new format and TPC Harding Park is a terrific setting for match play, so it's unfortunate that I won't be able to play this year."Mickelson's exit means that the world's number-68 player, Mikko Ilonen of Finland, is in. And that could be trouble for at least one other person in the field; Ilonen won the Volvo World Match Play last year at London Golf Club, defeating world number-three Henrik Stenson 3 & 1 in the final. Ilonen also finished T-7 at the last year's PGA Championship, after winning the Irish Open at Royal County Down. Mickelson will still play the Players Championship (May 10) and the Wells Fargo Championship (May 17), however. Have you seen an interesting golf story? Tell us about it!
