![]() Plenty To Be Thankful For
It is pretty easy to let yourself get influenced by all the bad stuff you read and see in the news these days. There is strife and weird stuff going on all over the world, no doubt. But it isn't as bad as it may seem, unless you don't also look for the "good stuff." We live in a world full of messages and inputs for our minds and psyches to process, and it seems that those best ones might not get the same recognition or importance that we give the bad ones.
For example, I'm sitting at my dining room table looking out at what is about to be a spectacular sunrise, full of colors and shapes as the sun begins to light up the low cloud cover. Even if for just a few minutes, my life is going to stand still and allow me to fully embrace the dynamic beauty of nature and our planet. As daylight replaces dark, I'll see those early sun's rays illuminate the deer feeding just a wedge shot away from the dining room window. I have to be thankful for all that, right? Across from me, also working on her computer, is the single most fantastic woman I've ever known, and the one with whom I get to spend the rest of my life. I'm so unbelievably thankful that we met just those few short years ago, and that my life took a huge turn for the better from that day forward. In my business life, I'm working longer hours than ever as we nurture an emerging young golf company, but this is the culmination of my life in golf and my 30-plus years of work in the golf industry. How could I not be ecstatic over seeing this dream come true – revolutionizing the way golfers look at the scoring end of their sets, and leading the last revolution in the equipment industry? In my family, my 91-year-old mother is healthy and mentally sound, and is doing well after her recent move into assisted living. I know it was tough for her to leave her home of the past 67 years, but the memories of growing up there will reside in our minds and hearts forever. And my brother seems to be winning in his fourth battle with cancer. Damn that stuff, but he's a huge inspiration with his bravery and faith. There are so many other wonders that I (and all of us) have to be thankful for. Yes, we all have heavy hearts over things that are not quite as we wish they would be. But over these next few days, I suggest all of us take a few minutes and really dwell on all the little things... and those big ones... that make our lives full and rich and wonderful. I'll bet you can make a list a mile long if you do. Happy Thanksgiving, all. I'm not going to write on Friday, but will be back next Tuesday.
