This course previously was known as Chemstrand, Monsanto and Solutia Golf Clubs. The course changed names whenever the plant, which owned it, changed ownership. Several years ago the plant (Solutia) opened up the membership to non-employees and required the golf course to be self-sustaining. After the plant changed ownership to Ascend Performance Materials the golf club was permitted, in 2010, to select a name which was not tied to the plant's or owner's name.

Cypress Lakes Golf Club is a very scenic golf course that is cut through Pine, Oak, and Magnolia Trees. The over 300 Crepe Myrtles & 500 Azaleas throughout the golf course make it absolutely breath-taking during the spring. This is an uncharacteristic Florida golf course, as it has a somewhat mountainous terrain (less than a handful of blind shots).
