This heathland-style layout debuted in 1894 with nine holes designed by the legendary Old Tom Morris; prolific architect James Braid completed the second nine in 1934. Some changes to the course have occurred in the intervening decades, but it still retains much of Braid's styling.

Visitors are welcome, but advance booking is required. The peak-season walking rates are £35/round or £40/day on weekdays, £40/round or £45/day on weekends and bank holidays (carts are £25/round or £40/day).
