Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club is the first course built on a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSi) since the late 1800s, when Old Tom Morris had a hand in designing nearby Machrihanish GC. Architect and Scotsman David McLay Kidd, who is internationally acclaimed for his design of Bandon Dunes in Oregon and the The Castle Course at Saint Andrews, created an inspired routing for Machrihanish Dunes measuring 7,175 yards and featuring six greens and five tees at the ocean's edge.

The standard peak-season (April-October) walking rate is £79, although members, hotel guests, cottage owners, and local residents are afforded various discounts. The off-season rate is £40.

Not a bad layout but greens tricked up a tad. Could do with some tidying up, particularly the levelling of walking paths which were far too bumpy.

Got a great deal on a new course, the wind was 30 knots plus so nobody else apart from us on the course. A great course considering its youth
